Design Intention
The protective shoes currently available have aesthetic qualities that are driven purely by function. What if they didn't need to be so rugged and clumsy looking?
I selected the Converse brand to guide my styling direction and then utilised composite materials to give the shoe all of the strength and protective qualities required.
Note: This project has no connection with Converse/Nike, Inc. The use of Converse styling elements is purely for educational purposes.

-
The profile is that of a traditional basketball shoe.
-
Styled in all black, the shoe is intended to appeal more to a working role.
Utilising a kevlar belt incorporated into the sole and a carbon kevlar toe tip, the shoe can protect the wearer from injuries caused by both sharp penetrations and crushing.
-
An exploded view of the shoe displaying the protective, composite components.
-
The shoe's tread pattern harks back to the original All Star.
