Design Intention
Enlighten is Canberra's yearly festival of light. The University of Canberra's marketing team wanted to showcase illuminated indigenous artwork and sought my assistance to create the 'Cultural Elements' exhibit.
Working in a team of just three and with a timeframe of just two and a half weeks to go from concept to installation, we deployed a range of manufacturing technologies to produce seven illuminated pillars of light.
The installation was subject to all weather (and the general public!) for the full length of the festival. The artwork itself is printed onto a removable panel and as a result, the pillars can be reused for future exhibitions wearing different 'skins'.

Computer Aided Design, laser cutting, 3D printing, and concrete forming were all utilised in the manufacturing of the exhibit.

The end caps and collars were 3D printed from transparent PETG.
-
Off the shelf LED components were used to illuminate the core.
